About us

A little bit different

James Newton and Ben Gray first met at University where they worked together on a number of ambitious projects, including producing a pilot TV show at Pinewood Studios. After graduation James worked in production for ITV, he spent time in the Amazon Rainforest producing his first documentary about murdered missionary Dorothy Stang.

Ben learned his trade as a freelance camera operator and later as a producer/director.

They have always wanted to make a positive impact in the world through their work, with these common values and proven experience of working together they decided to go into business.

Their focus from the outset was on sustainability and with the evolving communication needs in business they saw an opportunity to specialise. So with typical gusto they began the process of creating String Films from the ground up.

Since then the company has grown and is flourishing, 2007 saw String Films launch their website and corporate film business. They are really proud to have gained clients such as Arup, Responsible Travel, PwC, Optical Express and Ecoescape. The have already started work on two of their own documentaries that tackle the subjects of sustainable travel and responsible tourism.
